Deats sets two records at SCIAC Track Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Freshman sprinter Lauren Deats put an exclamation mark on her impressive rookie season, setting a pair of Chapman University records at the SCIAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Occidental College on Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, Deats was the only point scorer and Chapman finished in last place in its first-ever appearance at the conference championship meet.

Deats improved on two school records she had already broken earlier this season and placed fourth in the finals in both the 100- and 200-meters for the Panthers. The freshman shaved .05 off her previous record in the 100 with a time of 12.62. Deats also crossed the line .03 seconds faster than her previous best in the 200 with a record mark of 25.97. She was the only Chapman runner to reach the finals at the championships.

Chapman's 4x400 relay team ran its fastest mark of the season in the conference finals, led by Deats, freshmen Baylor Hogan and Jaemi Mansfield and senior Peyton Collins. The quartet placed in seventh with a time of 4:13.77.

Senior jumper Ema Solarova saved her best for last, with a measurement of 10.11 meters in her last attempt in the finals for the triple jump. That jump was also good for her best jump of the season. The junior also placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.34 meters.
