Deats named to women's track and field All-SCIAC team

ORANGE, Calif. – Capping off her historic season, freshman Lauren Deats was named to the women's track and field All-SCIAC team in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash in an announcement made by the conference on Wednesday. The Chapman University sprinter placed fourth overall in both events, repeatedly setting school records as she became the fastest woman in Chapman history.

The Huntington Beach, Calif. native initially etched her name into the Chapman record books on March 2, topping an 11-year old mark in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.80 seconds. In her next meet, Deats matched her 100 meter school record exactly, while setting a new Panther-best time in the 200 meter dash, taking down a 17-year old record with a time of 26.00 seconds.

The freshman continued to improve with each meet as she broke her own 100 meter record on April 6 at Pomona-Pitzer, clocking a time of 12.67 seconds. In her SCIAC Championships debut on April 27, Deats delivered on high expectations, breaking her own record in the 100 meter (12.62 seconds) and the 200 meter (25.97 seconds), earning her a spot among the SCIAC elite.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
