Panthers break two school records at Claremont Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif.  – The Chapman University's women's track and field team broke two school records at the 18th Annual Rossi Relays on Saturday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Burns Track & Field Complex. The women set records in the distance medley relay and the 4x800 meter relay, due in large part to a strong class of freshmen runners.

The Chapman distance medley relay team finished in a school record 13:34.49, eclipsing the 17-year old school record by 59 hundredths of a second. Sara Wanous, Stephanie Karbo, Jessica Selby, and Cathryne Ramirez made up the all-freshman, record-setting squad.

The Panthers also set a school record in the 4x800 meter relay as juniors Nicole Jourdain and Lisa Peterkin teamed up with freshmen Ramirez and Selby to finish the heat in 10:39.73. Their time was nearly seven seconds faster than the previous school record, set two years ago by Jourdain, Peterkin and alumni Launa Kressin and Kayla Heath.

While the relay teams were busy etching their names into the Chapman record books, Charlie Truax was holding her own against her competition in the high jump, finishing in fifth place with a mark of 1.52 meters.

Chapman's women's track and field team returns to action on Saturday, March 8 at the first SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet of the year at Pomona-Pitzer slated for an 11 a.m. start.
