Chapman opens SCIAC competition with multi-dual meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track and field team placed fourth out of five teams at the first SCIAC multi-dual meet of the year at Pomona Pitzer Colleges' Strehle Track on Saturday. The Panthers fell to host Pomona-Pitzer, but defeated Caltech at a meet that also included Redlands and Whittier.

Chapman sophomore sprinter Lauren Deats posted solid times, coming in second place overall in the 100 meters and crossing the line fourth in the 200 meters. Deats' time of 12.91 seconds in the 100-meters was just .29 seconds shy of the school record (12.62) she set last year. In the 200 meters, Deats (27.21) finished just .02 out of third place.

In the 400 meters, freshman Sara Delucchi turned in a time of 1:04.49, giving her a third-place finish in the event. The Panthers ran to another third place finish in the 5,000 meters as freshman Cathryne Ramirez finished in a time of 19:57.47.

Deats, along with freshman Alyssa Bliss and sophomores Maria Belen Meza, Jaemi Mansfield, turned in a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 51.23 seconds.

Sophomore Charlie Truax turned in a third-place performance in the high jump with a jump of 1.45 meters, just .05 short of her career best.

The Panthers track and field team returns to action on Friday as they compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival, beginning at 5 p.m.
