Panthers miss the mark at track meet in La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track and field team hit the track on Saturday in the second SCIAC multi-dual meet of the year, this time at Ortmeyer Stadium in La Verne. The Panthers lost to the other four teams in the field (Cal Lutheran, La Verne, Redlands, Whittier), but had a few notable performances.

Chapman sophomore Maria Belen Meza turned in a solid performance at the meet, coming up just shy of her personal best in the long jump. On Mar. 15 at the Ben Brown Invite at Cal State Fullerton, Meza set her career mark in the long jump at 4.59 meters. On Saturday, she jumped a distance of 4.54 meters, coming up just shy of her personal record.

The Panther women also ran well in the 5,000 meter race. Freshmen Cathryne Ramirez (20:14.57) finished second in the race and Sara Wanous (21:08.11) came in fourth.

Additionally, Chapman had two finishers in the top 10 in the 1,500-meter run. Freshmen duo Jessica Selby and Wanous turned in times of 5:17.01 and 5:30.97 respectively.

The Panthers track and field team returns to action on April 12 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
