Three Panthers reach finals in individual events at SCIAC Championships

LOS ANGELES – The Chapman University women's track and field team concluded its season on Saturday with a last place finish at the SCIAC Championships at Bill Henry Track on the campus of Occidental College. The Panthers finished eighth of nine schools in the overall final conference standings thanks to a pair of wins earlier in the season.

Chapman had three individuals qualify for the finals in their respective events, including sophomore jumper Charlie Truax who tied for third in the high jump with a measure of 1.52 meters. Truax took three attempts at equaling her career high of 1.57 meters, which would have tied her for second place, but couldn't duplicate the feat this time.

Freshman distance runner Cathryne Ramirez reached the finals in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:59.75 in the preliminaries and placed 10th overall in the finals, crossing the finish line at 5:00.56. Additionally, she finished 20th overall in the 5000 meters with a mark of 18:57.16

Sprinter Lauren Deats was again the Panthers' fastest woman in the 100 and 200 meters, reaching the finals in both. The sophomore placed sixth overall in the 200 with a mark of 26.11 seconds in both the prelims and the finals. She was eighth in the finals of the 100 meters with a finish of 12.79 seconds, still .17 seconds off her school record pace set at the 2013 SCIAC Championships.
