Track duo earns All-SCIAC recognition

ORANGE – By vitrue of placing in the top six in their individual events at the SCIAC Track and Field Championships earlier this month, a pair of Chapman University women have been named to the All-SCIAC Track and Field Team for the 2014 season. Sophomore sprinter Lauren Deats earned her second career All-Conference nod in the 200 meters and sophomore Charlie Truax earned the award for the first time in the high jump.

Deats came up shy of her school record performance in the 200-meter dash (25.96) at last year's championships, but her time of 26.11 was still good enough for sixth place overall in this season's SCIAC finals. It's the sprinter's second-straight All-SCIAC honor in the event.

Meanwhile, Truax earned All-SCIAC recognition for the first time in her career with a third-place tie in the high jump. The sophomore, who also ran hurdles this season, jumped 1.52 meters in her championships debut in the event. Truax was ranked second in the conference this season with a career-best jump of 1.57 at a SCIAC meet in April.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
