Girardi named SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – A pair of personal-bests and a second-place finish has landed sophomore Maija Girardi SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors. She is the first Chapman field athlete to win the weekly honor.

Coming off an All-SCIAC finish in the javelin last year, Girardi was just off her PR set at the championship meet last spring. Her throw of 35.75 meters placed her second at the San Marcos Mangrum Invite for her best finish of the day.

Girardi also set a PR in the discus with a throw of 24.05 meters and in the shot put with a heave of 10.03 meters – over one meter past her previous PR. She placed fourth in the shot put.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday at the Westmont Sunshine Open.
