Panthers unable to stop no. 3-ranked La Verne

ORANGE, Calif. -  The Chapman University women's volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match, this time to the visiting No. 3-ranked University of La Verne. The Leopards won 27-25, 25-19, 25-17 on Tuesday night at the Hutton Sports Center and remained undefeated this season.

It has been 10 years since Chapman last defeated La Verne with the Panthers' last victory coming in 1998.

The first set saw the Panthers jumping out to an early lead capitalizing on several La Verne serving errors. With Chapman leading 22-17 the Leopards rallied, outscoring Chapman 10-3 to win the set 27-25.

La Verne (6-0) asserted itself over the final two sets to seal the victory. The Leopards had three players with double-digit kills led by junior Brianna Gonzales who had 17 and sophomore Crista Jones who had 12.

Chapman (6-5) was led by sophomore S Kat Kowalski who had 25 assists and senior MB Jill Felger who tallied nine kills.

The loss leaves Chapman head coach Mary Cahill still two victories short of 300 for her career.
