Panthers get even in five-game thriller with Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's volleyball team can be unfriendly hosts, too. Four days after losing to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont on Saturday, the Panthers rebounded Tuesday night defeating the Sagehens 25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 24-26, 17-15 at Hutton Sports Center in their first home game in nearly three weeks.

The teams split the first two games before Chapman (12-9) took control to win game three 25-14. The Panthers had an opportunity to close out the match in the fourth game leading 23-21, but the Sagehens scored five of the next six points to win the game 26-24. The fifth game saw Chapman build an 8-4 lead and never trailed before sealing the victory.

Chapman junior libero Linda Ly set a career-high with 43 digs, good enough for third on Chapman's single-match list. Junior OH Eryn Leja added 13 kills and 22 digs and senior MB Jill Felger led all hitters with a game-high 16 kills. Felger, who on Saturday became just the fourth Panther in the school's Division III history to reach 1,000 kills in her career, moved into second place on Chapman's career kills list with 1,037.

Sagehens junior OH Sarah Amos had 15 kills and senior libero Ruchi Patel had 32 digs in the loss.
