Sweep over Redlands avenges early-season loss

ORANGE, Calif. - Trailing only once the entire match, the Chapman University women's volleyball cruised to a three-set victory over the visiting University of Redlands 25-14, 25-13, 25-17 Saturday afternoon at Hutton Sports Center. For Chapman (14-10), it was the eighth sweep of the season and avenged a five-game defeat in Redlands last month.

After easing through the first two games, the Panthers saw Redlands (10-11) take a 6-3 lead in the third game, their only lead of the day, before Chapman responded to jump ahead. The Bulldogs stayed close for much of the third game getting as close as 18-16 before the Panthers went on to score seven of the next eight points to win and capture their second victory in as many days.

Junior OH Eryn Leja finished the match with a double-double tallying 12 kills and 10 digs, the only double-double for both teams. Senior MB Jill Felger finished with a game-high 14 kills. Defensively, junior libero Linda Ly had 22 digs followed by junior OH Erin DeRycke who added 13.

The Panthers have won five of their past seven matches and can clinch their sixth consecutive winning season with a win against North Park University (Ill.) on Thursday.
