Trio of Panthers earn independent volleyball honors

ORANGE, Calif. - Three Chapman University women's volleyball players have been selected to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independents team. Senior MB Jill Felger earned the award for the fourth year in a row and was selected to the first team for the third time.

Juniors Linda Ly and Lindsey Cargile were named to the All-Independents second team for Chapman.

Felger, a three-time All-America selection, earned first team honors after she led the Panthers with 278 kills and a .346 hitting percentage in 2008. The 2007 Independents' Player of the Year was edged out in her quest to repeat the honor by Cal State East Bay's Jackie Randolph. Felger currently ranks second in Chapman history with 1,148 career kills and holds school records for hitting percentage in a career and in a single-season.

A junior libero, Ly already holds school records for most digs in a season (she holds the top three marks in Chapman history) and in her career with 1,707. She was named to the All-Independents team for the third straight year after tallying 578 digs and earning All-America honors. She also earned All-Independent honors in basketball in 2007-08.

Meanwhile, Cargile ranked second on the team with 211 kills and 2.3 kills per game. The outside hitter was named to the second team for the first time in her career.

The AD3I consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2008-09. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
