Volleyball snaps three-match skid, earns first home win

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's volleyball team rebounded from losing its first two home matches of the season to defeat visiting Dickinson College (Pa.) in three games, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The victory also snapped the Panthers' three-match losing streak and handed Dickinson its fourth straight defeat.

Each of the first two sets played out very similarly, Chapman snapped a 6-6 tie in both and turned lopsided runs into convincing leads. In the second game, the Panthers went on an 11-4 run and led 17-10 on their way to a 25-16 victory - the largest margin of the day.

In the final set, the Red Devils rallied from a 19-13 deficit to pull within one point at 22-21, however a pair of kills by freshman OH Renee Roth closed out the sweep for Chapman (6-6). Roth and sophomore OH Kela Powers each had seven kills for the Panthers. Senior OH Lyndsey Cargile led all players with 12 kills.

Junior setter Kat Kowalski finished with 33 assists and senior libero Linda Ly earned 34 digs on defense. The Panthers also had eight service aces in the match, led by senior OH Erin DeRycke who had three.
