Ly earns All-America honors for second time

ORANGE, Calif. - A year after Chapman University set a school record with 12 All-America recipients in the 2008-09 school year, Panthers' volleyball star Linda Ly has become the school's first honoree this year. The senior libero was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America team for the second straight year after leading the nation in digs average and setting an NCAA record in the process.

Ly was one of four liberos named to the NCAA Division III All-America first team - the first time she has been named to the first team - and one of just two players selected from the West Region. She also joins Jill Felger as the Panthers' only multi-year All-America selections; Felger was a three-time selection from 2005-08.

The 5-foot, 3-inch team captain revolutionized the libero position at Chapman, shattering every school record for digs. This season she finished with 822 digs and led all of Division III with 7.75 digs per set. Ly also set an NCAA Division III record with 56 digs in a four-set match against La Verne on Oct. 10. She finished the season with 11 matches of 30 or more digs and helped the Panthers to their first NCAA playoff appearance since 2005.

Ly ended her career with 2,529 career digs which is almost 1,500 more than the next closest player in Chapman history. The senior is currently in the midst of basketball season as a starting guard on Chapman's women's basketball team.
