Cahill, Ly take top honors on All-Independents team

Two-time All-America selection Linda Ly and Chapman University women’s volleyball head coach Mary Cahill were recognized by the Association of Division III Independents last week. Ly, a senior libero, was named the All-Independents Player of the Year for 2009 and Cahill earned Coach of the Year honors for the first time in her career.

Ly earns All-America honors for second time

A year after Chapman University set a school record with 12 All-America recipients in the 2008-09 school year, Panthers’ volleyball star Linda Ly has become the school’s first honoree this year. The senior libero was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America team for the second straight year after leading the nation in digs average and setting an NCAA record in the process.

Panthers' libero earns All-West Region honors, again

For the third consecutive year, Chapman University women’s volleyball star Linda Ly has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-West Region team as first team libero selection. The senior – who earned All-America honors in 2008 – becomes the fifth Panther in the school’s Division III history to earn regional honors three times in her career.

NCAA appearance short-lived for Panthers in Redlands

The Chapman University women’s volleyball team was eliminated from the NCAA Division III West Region championships with a three-set defeat 25-16, 25-8, 25-12 at the hands of tournament host University of Redlands at Currier Gym on Thursday night. The No. 6-seed Panthers could not repeat their victorious five-game performance the last time they visited the Bulldogs in October.

Streaking Panthers earn sixth NCAA playoff berth

It finished the regular season playing probably its best volleyball of the year. Now the Chapman University women’s volleyball team will try to keep it going in the NCAA Division III tournament. The Panthers have been selected to the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2005 and will travel to the University of Redlands for the West Region championships beginning this Thursday, Nov. 12.

Panthers earn 18th victory for seniors in finale

The Chapman University women’s volleyball team won its 18th match of the season – the most the Panthers have won in 15 years – with a three-game sweep over visiting Hope International University, 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 at the Hutton Sports Center on Thursday night. It was Chapman’s regular season finale and ‘Senior Night’ for the Panthers, who won their fifth straight home match.

Playing in its first home match in exactly one month, the Chapman University women’s volleyball team defeated visiting La Sierra University 25-9, 25-4, 25-6 at the Hutton Sports Center on Thursday night. The Panthers have now won six of their past eight matches.

The Chapman University women’s volleyball team won for the fourth time in its past five matches, defeating visiting Whittier College 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 on Tuesday night at the Hutton Sports Center. The Chapman University women’s volleyball team rebounded from losing its first two home matches of the season to defeat visiting Dickinson College (Pa.) in three games, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The victory also snapped the Panthers’ three-match losing streak and handed Dickinson its fourth straight defeat.

On Tuesday night, the Chapman University volleyball team made its long-awaited home debut after opening the season with nine road matches. The Panthers lost. On Wednesday, Chapman was again at home and the results weren’t any better for the Panthers, who were defeated by visiting University of Redlands 25-20, 25-16, 28-26 at the Hutton Sports Center.

No. 18-ranked University of La Verne rallied from opening set defeat to win three straight sets and beat host Chapman University 15-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 to spoil the Panthers’ home opener at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday night. It was La Verne’s 21st consecutive victory over Chapman – a streak that dates back to 1999.

Ly completes digs trifecta with single-match record

For all of the digs records Linda Ly owns at Chapman, there was one that had eluded her in her first three years on the Panthers’ volleyball team. No more. The senior set a new school record with 53 digs in a five-match thriller with UMass-Boston on Saturday as part of the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
