Kowalski breaks Chapman volleyball assists record

LA VERNE, Calif. – Chapman University senior S Kat Kowalski broke the Panthers' all-time career assists record on Saturday despite the Chapman volleyball team's road loss to the University of La Verne, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 27-25. Kowalski served up 31 assists in the match to give her 3,370 for her career.

Kowalski, a four-year starter for the Panthers, broke the 12-year old record set by Lisa Nitta in 1998. Kowalski accomplished the new mark in her 336th career game – 37 games fewer than Nitta. She has been aided this year already with four matches of 40 or more assists, including a season-high with 53 assists each in back-to-back matches against Willamette (Ore.) and Pacific Lutheran (Wash.).

The senior is averaging exactly 10 assists per game over her four-year career and already owns the Chapman record for assists in a game with 68 versus Redlands last October.
