ORANGE, Calif. – Of the Chapman University volleyball team's eight wins this season, all but one have been decisive three-game sweeps. The Panthers earned their seventh sweep of the season as they defeated Whittier College 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 on Friday night at the Hutton Center.
The two teams played a five-game match last weekend at the Posada Royale Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran, but on Friday night, Chapman led for the majority of the match as they took advantage of 22 attack and nine Whittier service errors.
In the first game, with the exception of the score being tied 4-4, Chapman (8-3) led for the duration. The Panthers biggest lead of the game was nine points at 25-16 after Whittier's sophomore OH Lindsey Kish committed a service error to end the game. Junior MB Kate Ferrin had six of her team-high 16 kills in the game while senior L Alyssa Swatek had eight of her game-high 18 digs in the set.
In the final set, Whittier built a 7-5 lead after a kill by sophomore OH Alayna Rigo who had seven on the night. Four-consecutive attack errors by Whittier gave Chapman the lead for good at 9-7. The Panthers overcame nine kills in the game by Whittier junior OH Alyssa Sialaris who had 20 on the night.
