Swatek and Ferrin named first team All-West Region

ORANGE, Calif. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its All-Region teams Wednesday with Chapman University senior L Alyssa Swatek and junior MB Kate Ferrin both being named to the first team. A total of 14 players were named to the West Region first team.

For both Swatek and Ferrin, it is their second-consecutive All-West Region selection. Ferrin was named to the first team last season while Swatek earned honorable mention. Chapman has now had at least one All-Region selection in seven-consecutive seasons dating back to 2005.

Swatek is Chapman's team-leader this season in total digs (693), digs per set (6.19) and service aces (46). Her 6.19 digs per set rank 10th nationally. Also, with 46 service aces, Swatek is just three short of the school's single-season Division III record.

Ferrin leads the team in kills (413), kills per set (3.65), total attacks (946), hitting percentage (.317), total blocks (41), block solos (10) and block assists (31). Against Occidental College, and later in the season against Principia College, Ferrin set a career high with 20 kills. She also tied a career high with five blocks in a game at La Verne in September.
