Swatek and Ferrin named All-Americans by AVCA

ORANGE, Calif. – After playing an integral role in the Chapman University volleyball team's best season since 1989, both senior L Alyssa Swatek and junior MB Kate Ferrin were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-America team Tuesday. It is the second such honor for Ferrin while it is the first time Swatek has been named an All-American.

It is the fifth-consecutive season that Chapman has had at least one player named to the All-America team. The duo helped Chapman to a 24-9 season and its first postseason win since 2004.

Swatek earned second-team All-America honors after leading Chapman this season in total digs (749), digs per set (6.29) and service aces (48). Her 6.29 digs per set ranked 9th nationally. Also, with 48 service aces, Swatek finished just one short of the school's single-season Division III record last accomplished in 2006. She finishes her career with 1,322 digs in two seasons. In the Panthers upset win over No. 10 Southwestern University on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Regional, Swatek had a season-high 40 digs.

Ferrin earned honorable mention All-America after leading the team in kills (440), kills per set (3.67), total attacks (1011), hitting percentage (.317), total blocks (44), block solos (10) and block assists (34). Against Occidental College, and later in the season against Principia College, Ferrin set a career high with 20 kills. She also tied a career high with five blocks in a game at La Verne in September.
