Geiger earns All-SCIAC honors for second time

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University junior Val Geiger was named to the All-SCIAC volleyball team on Monday marking the second straight year she has received first team honors. Geiger was the only Panther named to the All-Conference team for the 2013 season.

The junior – a 2012 AVCA All-America selection – was even better this season, setting a Chapman record with 485 kills and leading the SCIAC with a .371 hitting percentage. She will have an opportunity to become the first Panther ever to amass 500 kills in a season as Chapman begins the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday at Cal Lutheran.

Geiger also set a school record with 36 kills in a single match as the Panthers defeated Redlands in five sets on Sept. 21. She tallied 20 kills or more in 12 matches this season led Chapman with 55 total blocks, including 26 solo blocks.

Twice this season, Geiger was named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week.
