AVCA tabs Geiger, Ostrovsky as All-Region honorees

ORANGE, Calif. – Two Chapman University volleyball players have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-West Region team for the 2013 season. Junior MB Val Geiger (first team) and senior S Corrine Ostrovsky (honorable mention) both received the recognition for the second straight year.

Geiger, an All-SCIAC first team selection as well, amassed a Chapman record 489 kills and ranked No. 7 in all of Division III with 4.49 kills per set. She also ranked in the top-25 in the nation in hitting percentage with a .366 mark in 28 matches. She tallied 20 kills or more in 12 matches this season led Chapman with 55 total blocks, including 26 solo blocks.

The "playmaker" of the Chapman offense, Ostrovsky ranks sixth in Division III in assists per set with 10.8 and totaled 1,260 assists on the year. She recorded 50 or more assists in a match 12 times this season, including a season-high 63 twice. Ostrovsky is the Panthers' all-time leader in career assists with 4,094 tallies and added 306 digs and 17 blocks this season.

Chapman finished the season with a 17-12 mark and was eliminated from the SCIAC Tournament in the semifinals. The Panthers missed the NCAA Division III playoffs for just the second time in five seasons.
