Asserting its nearly decade-long dominance in the classroom, the Chapman University volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the sixth consecutive year for academic excellence.

Chapman University celebrated another outstanding year in athletics with its annual Jog-a-thon and Sports Appreciation Day at Wilson Field on Friday afternoon. In addition to celebrating the University’s first-ever SCIAC football and men’s basketball (co) championships and recognizing retiring Director of Athletics David Currey, the Panthers honored five seniors with the Department of Athletics’ annual awards including co-Male Athletes of the Year for the first time in Chapman history.

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport for the fall season. Leading the way for the Panthers was football, which garnered 15 honorees. In all, there were 49 Panthers recognized which ranked third among the nine SCIAC institutions.

Pair of fall athletes earn SCIAC sportsmanship honors

A pair of Chapman University seniors have earned sportsmanship honors as part of the SCIAC’s fall sports postseason awards. Panthers’ volleyball player Andi Frisina and men’s water polo player Drew Moyer were named to their respective All-Conference Sportsmanship teams for the 2014 season.

Volleyball duo named to All-SCIAC squad

Chapman University volleyball senior duo Val Geiger and Andi Frisina have been named to the All-SCIAC volleyball team as voted on by the conference coaches for the 2014 season. While it is Frisina’s first honor, Geiger has now earned the award in three consecutive seasons.

The Chapman University volleyball team finished its home calendar with a win over visiting Occidental College 26-28, 25-23, 25-17, 25-12 at the Hutton Sports Center on Friday night. The Panthers rallied after losing the first set to win, led by their seniors who were honored prior to the ‘Senior Night’ match.

No. 2 Cal Lutheran fends off feisty Chapman in four sets

Once again, the Chapman University volleyball team appears to be playing its best ball of the season here at the end, but isn’t getting much to show for it. Despite winning the first set and playing well throughout, the Panthers fell to No. 2-ranked Cal Lutheran University in four sets 25-27, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday night.

Rally comes up just short in five-set loss to La Verne

Fighting for its postseason life, the Chapman University volleyball team played one of its best matches of the season on Tuesday night. The Panthers rallied from two sets down to tie the match and force a decisive fifth set, but visiting University of La Verne held on for a 25-13, 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 15-13 win at the Hutton Sports Center.

Slugs sweep volleyball in non-conference play

The Chapman University volleyball team lost at home on Friday night in three sets to visiting UC Santa Cruz 25-20, 25-23, 25-16 in a non-conference match at the Hutton Sports Center. The guest Banana Slugs hit .311 as a team to sweep the two-match season series with the Panthers.

Panthers snap home losing streak with sweep of Redlands

The Chapman University volleyball team snapped a three-match home losing streak and began the second half of the SCIAC schedule on the right track, defeating visiting University of Redlands in straight sets 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 at the Hutton Center on Tuesday night.
