Cooke leads Panthers to three-set sweep over Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior OH Kylie Cooke recorded double digit kills to lead the Chapman University women's volleyball team to a three-set sweet over Redlands on Friday. The Panthers (5-3 overall, 2-0 SCIAC) rallied back to win sets one and three in a 29-27, 25-17, 25-21 victory at the Hutton Sports Center.  

In set one, Chapman fell behind early 7-11 but three back-to-back aces by Cooke kept the Panthers in the 12-10 match. The Bulldogs and Panthers then traded leads five times pushing the set to 27-27. However, sophomore MB Ali Robinson came up clutch with a block on the 28th point to push the Panthers to a 29-27 victory.

In set two, Chapman rallied back from a six point deficit 22-16 to earn the victory 25-17. Senior OH Michele Hammer tallied seven of her 10 kills in the second set.

The Panthers earned the sweep in set three recording a five point run at 20-17 to defeat the Bulldogs. Sophomore MB Alex Corcoran tallied four kills and two block assists in the set earning a career high. Leading the Panthers passing game was freshman DS Kaitlyn Raymundo tallying 48 assists in the game.

Chapman looks to build on its pair of wins at home, in Tuesday's rematch at Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers will then return home Friday, Sept. 25 for a SCIAC match against Caltech at 7:30 p.m.
