Panthers fall 3-1 to Whittier

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's volleyball team fell to Whittier 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 on Friday night at the Hutton Sports Center. Sophomore Lauren Friend had the hot hand at the net registering a career-high 14 kills, while hitting .722 on the night.

The Panthers took an early 11-4 lead in set one, but the Poets went on a 7-0 run to tie the match up 11-11. From there Whittier went on a 14-7 run to defeat Chapman 25-18 in set one.

In set two, the Panthers and Poets traded points to tie the game six times in the set. Whittier capitalized on a service ace and a pair of kills to earn the 25-22 victory in set two.

Chapman battled in the third set to earn the 25-22 win. Two key back-to-back aces by sophomore Kaitlyn Raymundo and four key kills from sophomore Lindsey Johnson helped the Panthers take a set away from Whittier.  

The Poets won the final set win 25-18 capitalizing on a five point run when leading 15-13. Whittier's offense was led by Rebecca Slattery and Olive Anagu who each registered double-digit kills on the night.

Raymundo led the Panthers passing game with 25 assists while sophomore Sarah Plett helped Chapman with a career-high of 18 digs. Johnson also recorded a career-high of eight kills in the match.

Chapman returns to the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 4 p.m. homecoming match against Redlands.
