Panthers defeat Redlands 3-1 in homecoming match

ORANGE, Calif. – Four Panthers registered double-digit kills in a 3-1 victory over University of Redlands at the Hutton Sports Center. The Chapman University women's volleyball team defeated the Bulldogs 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23 on Saturday evening in a homecoming match.

The Panthers took set one with breeze, out-hitting the Bulldogs .372 to .108. Chapman registered a game-high 20 kills in the first set.

Redlands made an early 10-2 run in the second set to capture a 15-5 lead. The Panthers battled back with five point effort to tighten the score 20-12 but the Bulldogs outhit Chapman to take set two of the match.

Chapman bounced back in the third set in which sophomore Jessica Blum registered four kills to lift the Panthers the narrow 25-23 win. The Panthers sealed the win in the fourth with a come-back 25-23 victory.

Sophomore Courtney Justus notched her fifth double-double of the season with 14 digs and 11 kills. Junior Abby Smith and sophomore Lauren Friend also registered 11 kills on the night.

Chapman returns to the Hutton Sports Center on Wednesday, Oct. 5 for a home match against La Sierra at 7 p.m. The Panthers will return to SCIAC play on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
