Women's volleyball swept in SCIAC semifinal

ORANGE, Calif. – The season came to end for the Chapman University volleyball team after a 25-17, 25-18, 25-11 loss to top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the semifinals of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Panthers made their first appearance in the conference tournament for the first time since 2013.

Junior Kiley McGill led the Panthers with eight kills in the three-set match while senior Kylie Cooke had seven kills and hit .316 in her final match. Senior Abby Smith hit .375 with four kills in her final match as a Panther. Senior Cheri Raymundo had a couple of kills and four digs.

The Athenas never trailed in the first set and went on to hit .414 for early lead in the match. Chapman went up 4-1 early in the second but CMS sparked an 8-0 run to take the lead and never trailed for the rest of the match. Three blocks fueled the run and held Chapman to a negative hitting percentage in the set.

Chapman wasn't able to get going offensively in the third set as CMS completed the sweep. Chapman hit .054 in the match while CMS hit .375. Amanda Walker led the Athenas with nine kills while Melanie Moore had seven blocks.

The Panthers finish the season 16-11 overall and finished the regular season tied for third in the SCIAC standings. They are set to return four starters and the libero next season when they get back on the hardwood.
