Lumsden, Srivastava sweep SCIAC awards

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University volleyball team swept the SCIAC Athlete of the Week awards after a big 3-0 week. Sophomores Jessi Lumsden and Sophie Srivastava both earned the weekly honors.

Lumsden's first SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week of the season comes after Chapman's three biggest wins of the season. The sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., averaged 3.69 kills per set and 2.77 digs per set while leading the Panthers to wins over No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Cal Lutheran. She was right on her season average of 3.68 kills per set this season. She is also hitting .303 through seven SCIAC matches – the best of any left side hitter in the conference.

The Panthers came back from an 0-2 deficit against both CMS and Cal Lutheran. Lumsden's big night of 18 kills and 20 digs helped the Panthers shock the Athenas. Srivastava put up her first of three triple-doubles on the week in the comeback win with 12 kills, 24 assists and 23 digs.

The sophomore setter and right side hitter had a triple-double in every match last week with double digits in kills, assists and digs to ear the SCIAC Specialist of the Week. She also averaged over one block per set to help the Panthers seize the lead in the SCIAC standings. With three triple-doubles last week and five in her last six matches, Srivastava has taken over the Division III lead with seven this season.

The Panthers reach the halfway point of the SCIAC schedule on Tuesday at Whittier.
