Helgeson selected as SCIAC Specialist of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Cat Helgeson earned her first career honor as she was selected as the SCIAC Specialist of the Week. The freshman libero totaled a career-high in the Panthers win over Whittier.

Helgeson has put together a strong freshman season and helped the Panthers roll to a 13-match winning streak, including and 8-0 mark in the SCIAC. Her 5.89 digs per set rank second in the SCIAC and 17th in all of Division III.

The first-year from Walnut Creek, Calif. put up a career-best 32 digs in the Panthers four-set win over Whittier – their lone match of the week. It was the second time this season that she has recorded at least 30 digs and the third match in a row with 20-plus.

The Panthers went undefeated through their first round of SCIAC play and will open up the second half of the conference schedule at Occidental on Tuesday and return home on Friday to take on Redlands at 7 p.m.
