Tough weekend ahead for water polo at Claremont Convergence

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team will play in the Claremont Convergence tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 in Claremont, Calif.  In the tournament, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the Panthers will face two of the top-three teams in the latest Division III poll. This week the Panthers climbed two spots to No. 6 in the country.

Chapman (5-4) will have a tough weekend first facing Division II Cal State San Bernardino at 10 a.m. on Friday morning.  Later that day, the Panthers will go head-to-head with future SCIAC rival and top-ranked Occidental College (10-2), who rose from No. 3 to No. 1 in the Division III rankings. The Panthers have not beaten Occidental in the past three years.

On Saturday, Chapman will square off against Virginia Military Institute at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, then head back to Claremont McKenna to meet another future SCIAC rival, and No. 3-ranked University of Redlands (4-3). Chapman has never defeated Redlands, who is heading into the tournament on a two-game winning streak.

The Panthers last played in the Cal Lutheran tournament March 3-4, splitting four games including wins over top-10 team La Verne and Grove City (Pa.).
