All 15 Panthers net goals in 21-6 win over Macalester
ORANGE, Calif.- On the eve of its first SCIAC match of the season, the Chapman University women's water polo team scored a season-high 21 goals to defeat the Macalaster Scots on Tuesday at the Allred Aquatics Center. Every active Panther scored at least one goal in the 21-6 victory, which kept the Panthers record in their home tank perfect at 3-0.
Keely Dulaney scored in the opening minute to give the Panthers an early edge. Macalester's Chloe Kaulas responded with one of her two goals to even the score before Sam Martin netted two straight goals to put Chapman right back on top. Allison Harf capped the period off by scoring in the final seconds to give the Panthers a 4-1 advantage at the break.
Chapman widened its lead in the second quarter, scoring six straight goals including three from freshman utility Maddy Reeves, who scored a game and career-high four goals. Reeves had just one goal to her credit entering Tuesday's contest. The Panthers saw their 9-0 run come to an end when Hannah Currens netted a goal with 30 seconds left, shortening the Panthers' advantage to 10-2 heading into the half.
Eight third-quarter goals from eight different players gave Chapman an 18-5 lead heading into the final eight minutes. The Panthers' highest scoring quarter featured a 5-0 run that took just 2 minutes and 32 seconds to complete. Macalester received all of its third-quarter offense from sophomore Sarah Shoemaker, who scored three goals in an effort to keep the game close.
Fourth quarter goals from Harf, Rylee Boland and Mandy Sheehan secured the win for the Panthers. Boland paced the Panthers with four assists and two steals while goalkeeper Jordan Gilmore played an excellent defensive game, tallying 13 blocks and three steals.
The Panthers will be back in their home tank on Wednesday as they open up conference play with No. 1 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 5 p.m.
