An outstanding 13 members of the Chapman University women’s water polo team (out of 18 on the roster) qualified for All-Academic recognition by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for the 2014 season.

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

Chapman University juniors Riley Ford and Jordan Gilmore have been named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) NCAA Division III All-America team for the 2014 season. Each earned honorable mention to the team after helping the Panthers to a No. 8 ranking in Division III in the final coaches’ poll.

Panthers beat La Verne for seventh place in SCIAC

A microcosm of the season, the Chapman University women’s water polo team’s experience at the SCIAC Championships this weekend mirrored the ups-and-downs and close losses from its regular season. The Panthers defeated University of La Verne 16-7 in the tournament finale to secure seventh place in the conference standings and put a wrap on the 2014 season.

The Chapman University women's water polo team dropped its first round game in the SCIAC Championships, a 12-6 loss to No. 3 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Slade Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon.

The 2014 SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships are set to get underway this weekend April 25-27 hosted by Whittier College with all nine SCIAC teams to face off in the conference tournament. The team with the most cumulative points between their regular season win total and tournament finish will be crowned the SCIAC Champion and will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team fell to visiting Whittier College 10-4 in the Panthers’ final home game of the season at Allred Pool on Saturday. The No. 3-ranked Poets pulled away in the second half to clinch the No. 3 seed in next weekend’s SCIAC Championships.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team lost another tough match on Wednesday afternoon, falling to visiting Occidental College 7-6 at the Allred Pool. In what has become an adverse trend, the Panthers lost their eighth game of the year by one goal.

In a battle of No. 4 vs. No. 5 in the NCAA Division III rankings, the Chapman University women’s water polo team dropped a heartbreaker to visiting Cal Lutheran University 9-8 in a SCIAC game at the Allred Pool on Saturday. The fourth-ranked Regals held serve thanks to a game-winning goal with 38 seconds remaining in the contest.

Ten first-half goals and three-plus shutout periods of defense helped the Chapman University women’s water polo team cruise to a 13-2 win over visiting Caltech in the Panthers’ first home SCIAC match of the season at the Allred Pool on Wednesday.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team earned its first two home wins of the 2014 season and kicked off a seven-game homestand the right way, defeating visiting Macalester College (Minn.) 15-4 and Connecticut College 12-6 at the Allred Pool on Thursday.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team rallied from an four-goal fourth-quarter deficit to tie the game and force overtime, only to fall to visiting Siena College (N.Y.) 10-9 in ‘golden goal’ overtime at the Allred Pool on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers nearly upset their second Division I opponent of the season, having already beaten Sonoma State earlier this month.

Water polo falls in home opener to Villanova

The Villanova University (Pa.) women’s water polo team struck for three third-quarter goals to turn a halftime deficit into a lead and eventual 7-5 victory over host Chapman University at the Allred Pool on Wednesday afternoon. The loss spoiled the Panthers’ home debut and was their fourth in five games.

After over a month-long layoff, the No. 4-ranked Chapman University women’s water polo team will jump back in the pool when it travels to the Cal Lutheran Tournament on March 1-2, after winning its first two contests of the season in convincing fashion.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team will officially kick off the spring sports season on Saturday as it opens the 2014 campaign at the Redlands Tournament. The Panthers return nearly half of their roster that finished in seventh place in its first season in the SCIAC last year.
