Panthers break two-game losing streak with win over Connecticut

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team snapped its two-game losing streak with a win at home against out-of-region visitor Connecticut College 15-3 at Allred Pool on Monday afternoon.

Both teams started the game well with the score tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but the Panthers strong performance in the second half left Connecticut scoreless for the rest of the game.

Chapman went on a 9-0 run in the second half to earn its first home victory of the season, including two goals in the third quarter by junior Alison Quincy.

Quincy led the Panthers in scoring with four goals and three steals, while junior Kate Avery scored three goals and recorded three assists on Monday.

Senior Kirsten Spicer protected the goal with 11 blocks, including shutouts in the second and third quarter. Freshman Kerry Goodspeed came in off the bench for Chapman in the fourth quarter adding three saves to her career.

Chapman (4-7 overall) will travel to Riverside for the Cal Baptist Tournament on Friday, March 13 beginning with a 2 p.m. match against Virginia Military Institute followed by a 7 p.m. match against Cal Baptist. The Panthers will return home on Monday, March 16 to host Macalester (Minn.) at 4 p.m. at Allred Pool.
