Seniors shine in regular season finale win

ORANGE, Calif. – Three Chapman University women's water polo seniors combined for 13 of the team's 17 goals and another one became the school's all-time leader in blocks as the Panthers cruised to a 17-3 'Senior Day' win over visiting Caltech at the Allred Pool on Saturday.

Chapman secured the No. 4 seed in next weekend's SCIAC Championships and will face either Redlands, Cal Lutheran or La Verne in the first round on Friday at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

Senior goalie Kirsten Spicer became Chapman's all-time leader in blocks with four in the first quarter, giving her 558 spanning her four-year career.

Meanwhile, senior 2-meter Anna Price scored a career-high seven goals, including five in the first half to lead the Chapman (12-14 overall, 4-4 SCIAC) offense in its regular season finale. She did so on just nine shots on goal and earned three ejections as well for the Panthers.

Senior attacker Emily Holmquist and senior utility Riley Ford scored three goals apiece in the first quarter as Chapman scored a season-high nine goals in the first period alone and jumped out to a 9-3 lead. The Panther defense took care of the rest, shutting out Caltech over the final three quarters and getting six blocks from freshman backup goalie Kerry Goodspeed.

The four seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony marking the final home game of their careers.
