Women's water polo in top-five in national GPA rankings

ORANGE, Calif. – For the fourth consecutive year, the Chapman University women's water polo team ranked in the top-five in the nation (amongst all college divisions) in team grade-point average as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) released its All-Academic awards for the 2015 season. Thirteen Panthers earned individual honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, while the team posted an overall mark of 3.48 – tied for fourth in the nation.

Despite improving on last year's team average of 3.45, Chapman fell two spots from second overall in 2014. The Panthers remain tops in the SCIAC with the next-closest conference rival, Claremont McKenna (3.39), coming in at No. 7.

The ACWPC All-Academic Awards are broken down into three levels based on GPA. An athlete with a GPA between 4.0 and 3.71 is "Outstanding". Those with a GPA ranging from 3.70 to 3.41 are "Superior" and between 3.40 and 3.20 is "Excellent".

Three Panthers earned "Outstanding" honors, senior goalie Kirsten Spicer, senior 2-meter Anna Price and sophomore utility Emily Fong. For Spicer, it was the third straight year she's earned outstanding honors.

Superior honorees include: senior Emily Holmquist, juniors Kate Avery, Kate Staskus and Deanna Farley, sophomore Kristie Lee and freshman Isabel Kinsolving .

Excellent honorees include: junior Alison Quincy, sophomores Lindsey Campbell and Emiko Mizusawa, and freshman Allison Galuszka.

Players must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's games during the 2015 season and have at least a 3.2 GPA to earn ACWPC honors.
