Women's water polo goes 1-3 on opening weekend

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team went 1-3 in its opening weekend at the Tina Finali Invitational last weekend. The Panthers picked up a 13-12 win over Cal St. Monterey Bay.

On Saturday, CU fell to Fresno Pacific 14-9 before dropping an 11-6 final to No. 23 Cal Baptist. Sunday started stronger as the Panthers edged out CSUMB 13-12 before falling 10-3 to Cal State East Bay.

Senior Alison Quincy led Chapman offensively with 13 total goals in the four matches. She scored five goals against Fresno Pacific on Saturday before scoring five more in the win over CSUMB. Junior Emily Fong also scored five goals in the Panthers' win and scored nine on the weekend.

Sophomore Kerr Goodspeed and freshman Alyssa Welfringer split time in goal for the Panthers. Welfringer made 15 blocks to go along with six steals.

The Panthers have their home-opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they host Division I Villanova in Allred Pool.
