Quincy scores five in home opener

ORANGE, Calif. –Junior Alison Quincy headlined the Panther offense with five goals in the Chapman University women's water polo home opener against Villanova. The Panthers fell 14-11 to the Wildcat on Tuesday afternoon at Allred pool.

The Wildcats took an early 4-1 lead in the in the first period with Quincy scoring the first goal for the Panthers. With just ten seconds left in the first period, junior Emily Fong helped the Panthers to 4-2 with a goal from five-yards out.

Quincy pushed the Panthers to 3-4 with a goal at the 5:55 minute from the left corner to start the second period. Senior Kate Staskus then sprinted down the pool to score just 20 seconds later and tie the game up for the Panthers 4-4 in the second period. Chapman then scored the go-ahead goal at the 3:32 minute mark to take the lead 5-4. Villanova fired back with a pair of goals in the last minute to take the lead back 6-5 heading into the half.

Trailing 6-5, Quincy continued her offensive prowess scoring back-to-back goals to start the third quarter to give the Panthers a 7-6 lead. Villanova then opened a 5-0 run with back-to-back goals by sophomore Dominique Clark to take the lead 11-7 heading into the fourth period.

Chapman went on a 4-1 run to tighten the score 12-11 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter, but a pair of insurance goals by the Wildcats would earn Villanova the 14-11 win.

Quincy's five goals moved her to sixth All-Time in Career Goals for CU. Senior Kate Avery led the Panthers with four assists and three steals.

Chapman will return home to host Sonoma State on Sunday, March 6 at noon.
