Campbell's late goal lifts water polo over Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Lindsey Campbell scored the game-winning goal with just over three minutes left to give the Chapman University women's water polo team a 10-9 victory in its SCIAC-opener over Cal Lutheran. Senior Alison Quincy scored four times to lead the Panthers.

Quincy scored three consecutive Panther goals over the first and second quarters to take a 1-1 CU lead to a 4-2 advantage for the home team. The Panthers led 5-3 at halftime.

Quincy scored again to start the third quarter and extend Chapman's lead to 6-3. However, the Regals fought their way right back in to tie the match at 6-6 on Amanda Jones' goal with just under four minutes to go in the third. Another Regal goal gave the Panthers their first only deficit of the day at 7-6.

However, Kate Staskus and Campbell scored back-to-back goal before the end of the period to regain the lead for Chapman at 8-7 heading into the fourth. Staskus scored again to open the fourth quarter and make it 9-7 Chapman.

Cal Lutheran tied it with 3:33 to go before Campbell fired in a shot less than 30 seconds later to reclaim the lead. Both teams held each other scoreless the rest of the way as Chapman claimed the SCIAC victory.

Freshman Isabel Kinsolving tallied three assists and five steals while Emily Fong took away six steals to lead the defense.

The Panthers are back at home tomorrow to face Concordia at 11 a.m.
