Panthers cruise to 14-11 win over Concordia

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Alison Quincy led the Chapman University women's water polo team to a 14-11 victory over visiting Concordia University with another multiple-goal game at Allred Pool on Sunday afternoon.

Chapman took an early 4-1 lead in the first half with back-to-back goals from Quincy. Senior Kate Staskus scored the first goal of the match for the Panthers, while Emily Fong scored the final goal of the first quarter.

Concordia was first on the board in the second quarter with a goal at the 6:40 minute mark by sophomore Jastine Vazquez. Junior Emiko Mizusawa scored from 10-yards out with 5:17 left on the clock to push the Panthers to a 5-2 lead, but less than 30 second later junior Emily Varisco found the net for the Eagles to tighten the score 5-3. The Panthers and Eagles each scored once more before the period ended to push the score to 6-4 at the end of the first half.

Chapman opened up the score to 9-4 in the third quarter with three goals by Fong, Staskus and junior Lindsey Campbell. With three minutes left in the third, Concordia fired back with a pair of goals of its own to tighten the score 9-6. With just under a minute left, Campbell scored her second goal of the game to give the Panthers a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Concordia outscored Chapman 5-4 in the final quarter but Chapman's early lead allowed the Panthers to secure the 14-11 victory at home. Quincy led the Panthers with four goals for the second consecutive game, alongside Fong who netted three goals of her own.   

Chapman will play its next three matches on the road before returning home on Wednesday, March 30 for a doubleheader contest featuring Occidental College and Brown University.
