An impressive number of Chapman University student-athletes were again recognized for their work in the classroom. The Panthers placed 178 student-athletes on the SCIAC’s annual All-Academic team, the conference announced on Thursday.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team’s GPA ranked 23rd among all divisions nationally and 10 student-athletes were recognized on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic team.

Seniors Grace Schade and Emily Fong both repeated as All-Americans for the Chapman women’s water polo team as selected by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. After leading the SCIAC in goals scored, Schade earned First Team honors while Fong was selected to the Second Team.

Senior Emily Fong closed out her career with Academic All-District VIII women’s at-large honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Fong is Chapman’s third student-athlete to earn the accolade this year, joining Marco Saglimbeni and Jared Love.

Junior Andi Sandoval became the first member of the Chapman University women’s water polo team to earn a major SCIAC award as the SCIAC’s Newcomer of the Year. Senior Grace Schade was also selected to the All-SCIAC Second Team.

Seniors Emily Fong and Grace Schade combined for seven goals but the Chapman University women’s water polo team fell 13-11 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the fifth place match of the SCIAC Tournament.

Campbell's game-winner sends women's water polo to fifth-place match

Senior Lindsey Campbell scored the game-winner with just five seconds left in the match to give the Chapman University women’s water polo team a 9-8 win over Redlands in the SCIAC Tournament. With the win, the Panthers advance to tomorrow’s fifth-place game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Senior Grace Schade scored four goals but the sixth-seeded Chapman University women’s water polo team fell 14-11 to third-seed La Verne in the opening round of the SCIAC Tournament. Chapman will play the last match of the day tomorrow.

It took nearly 23 minutes for Occidental to get on the board as the Chapman University women’s water polo team cruised to a 10-4 victory. The defense held Occidental scoreless through the first half and senior Grace Schade scored four times to lead the Panthers (6-15, 3-1 SCIAC) to their fourth win in the last five matches.

Women's water polo drops first SCIAC match 14-10 to La Verne

The Chapman University women’s water polo suffered its first SCIAC defeat with a 14-10 loss to visiting La Verne. The Panthers (5-15, 2-1 SCIAC) fell in an early hole and couldn’t recover as the Leopards came out on top of the matchup of undefeated SCIAC teams.

The Chapman University Women’s water polo team beat the visiting Macalester College 9-2 Friday afternoon. The Panthers captured the win with the help of senior Emily Fong, who is now third all-time in career assists at Chapman with 118 assists.
