Chapman falls to Toronto in home opener

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 9-3 to University of Toronto in the Panthers home opener at Allred Pool on Friday night.

The Varsity Blues took the early lead 2-0 in the first period despite three saves from junior Kerry Goodspeed. Toronto added three goals in the second period to claim a commanding 6-0 at the end of the first half.

Trailing 7-0 two minutes into the third period, the Panthers scored three uncontested goals to cut the Varsity Blues lead down to 7-3. However, the Blues scored twice more to finish the match 9-3.

Senior Emiko Mizusawa led the Panthers scoring effort with a pair of back-to-back goals. Senior Lindsey Campbell scored the Panthers third goal and had two assists on the night.

Goodspeed and freshman Madeleine Kanzler split time in goal recording a combined nine assists on the night and two steals.

Up next, Chapman travels to Cal Lutheran on Sunday, Feb. 26 for two road contest. The Panthers will take on Cal State East Bay at 11:30 a.m. and St. Francis (N.Y.) at 3 p.m.
