Water polo battles hard but falls to Virginia Military Institute

ORANGE, Calif. The Chapman University women's water polo team dropped a hard-fought game 14-11 to Virginia Military Institute Wednesday afternoon. Senior Grace Schade led the offense with five out of the team's 11 goals, as well as three earned ejections.

The Panthers kept the score even in the first quarter behind goals by Schade, junior Mary Welton, and senior Lindsey Campbell. The Keydets took the lead in the second quarter with the help of junior Shelby Barkley to make the score 8-5 going into halftime.

Schade scored three goals in a row in the third quarter, bringing the score to 9-8 with just over a minute and a half left in the quarter. Virginia Military Institute responded with two goals of their own, and a late Chapman goal brought the score to 11-9 heading into the final quarter.

The Panthers scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, but the Keydets sealed their victory with three goals of their own.
