Chapman's third quarter rally falls short in loss to Brown

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 17-7 to Division I Brown University on Thursday afternoon at Allred Pool.

The Brown offense netted six goals in the first quarter to create a 6-2 deficit the Panthers struggled to recover from. Brown carried a 3-0 run into the second period, turning it into 6-1 run to take the lead 10-3 at the end of the first half.

Chapman rallied scoring three uncontested goals over a span of five minutes in the third quarter but Brown edged Chapman again moving the score to 13-6. The Bears ended the game on a 4-1 run to earn the 17-7 victory.

Senior Emiko Mizusawa led the Panther offense with a hat trick while senior Lindsey Campbell and junior Kerry Goodspeed picked up a pair of steals each. Chapman scored five of its seven goals on a 6-on-5 advantage and tallied 9 earned ejections in the match.

Up next, the Panthers travel to Claremont on Wednesday, April 5 for a 7 p.m. SCIAC match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
