Campbell's game-winner sends women's water polo to fifth-place match

LA VERNE, Calif. – Senior Lindsey Campbell scored the game-winner with just five seconds left in the match to give the Chapman University women's water polo team a 9-8 win over Redlands in the SCIAC Tournament. With the win, the Panthers advance to tomorrow's fifth-place game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The game-winner was the fourth of the match for Campbell. The Panthers never trailed the Bulldogs after Campbell scored the first two goals of the match in the first quarter. She also had an assist, two steals and earned four ejections.

Junior Kerry Goodspeed and the Panther defense kept Redlands off the board in the first for a 2-0 Chapman lead.

Redlands got on the board in the second with a 6-on-5 goal from Kolby Kahahawai but the Panthers and Bulldogs matched each other in the quarter for a 4-2 Chapman lead at halftime. Campbell scored again in the third along with goals from fellow seniors Emiko Mizusawa and Emily Fong to continue matching Redlands. The Panthers led 7-5 heading into the fourth.

Senior Grace Schade increased the Chapman lead to 8-5 with the first goal of the fourth but Redlands responded. Rachel Nelson scored back-to-back-to-back goals to tie up the match for the first time for the Bulldogs. Nelson tied up the match with 36 seconds left but Campbell threw in the game-winner just 31 seconds later to get the win for the Panthers.

Chapman concludes its season tomorrow in the SCIAC Tournament fifth-place match against CMS at 11:45 a.m.
