Sandoval named Newcomer of the Year, Schade All-SCIAC

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Andi Sandoval became the first member of the Chapman University women's water polo team to earn a major SCIAC award as the SCIAC's Newcomer of the Year. Senior Grace Schade was also selected to the All-SCIAC Second Team.

In her first season with the Panthers, Sandoval immediately joined the starting lineup as a utility player. She scored 20 goals this season and distributed 22 assists. In SCIAC play she scored 12 goals and had 11 assists. She also came away with 25 steals this season and drew nine exclusions. Her biggest match of the year came at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps when she scored twice and dished out three assists. She had a season-best three steals against VMI. The transfer from Orange Coast College and Laguna Niguel, Calif., native had at least one assist in six of the Panthers' last seven matches and scored a goal in each of the last four.

Schade was selected to the Second Team for her first career All-SCIAC honor. An All-American selection a year ago and two-time All-American in junior college, Schade spent the entire season near the top of the leaderboard and tied for the regular season SCIAC scoring title. She scored 56 goals in the regular season and eight more in the SCIAC Tournament to finish with 64 goals for the season – the sixth-most in school history. She had 33 assists and led the Panthers with 68 earned ejections. She scored five or more goals for times this year, including a career-best six goals against Sonoma St.

The Panthers concluded the season with a 7-22 record and finished sixth in the SCIAC.
