Women's water polo hauls in team and individual academic accolades

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team's GPA ranked 23rd among all divisions nationally and 10 student-athletes were recognized on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic team.

Individual recognition was broken into three groups: Outstanding, Superior and Excellent. Senior Emily Fong, who also earned All-American honors, led the Panthers academically as their only Outstanding recipient for student-athletes achieving a GPA better than a 3.71.

Four Panthers earned Superior recognition for student-athletes achieving between a 3.41-3.70 GPA. Freshmen Argelia Diaz and Nora Viarnes earned their first academic honor. Juniors Elaine Peterson and Kerry Goodspeed were also honored. Seniors Emiko Mizusawa, Grace Schade and Lindsey Campbell took home Excellent honors for those achieving between a 3.2-3.4 GPA as did junior Mary Welton.

Campbell and Fong made it a clean career sweep of the academic honor with the recognition coming for the fourth year in a row. Mizusawa earned the honor three times while Schade was recognized in both of her years on campus. Goodspeed was recrognized for the second year in a row.

As a team, the Panthers earned a 3.25 GPA to rank in the top-25 of every NCAA water polo team in the nation.
