All-Academic awards roll in for women's water polo

Both the team and 14 individual student-athletes on the Chapman University women’s water polo team were honored for their work in the classroom by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. As a team, the Panthers ranked in the top-20 in the nation in GPA across all divisions.

Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

ORANGE, Calif. – Three Chapman University women’s water polo players earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America honors this morning. Freshman Audrey Hattori headlined the selections with Second Team recognition, while seniors Kerry Goodspeed and Ellie Peterson earned Honorable Mention honors.

Chapman University Athletics announced its annual senior departmental awards at the jog-a-thon on Friday afternoon. The Panthers awarded male and female Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards as well as male and female Leadership Awards.

Freshman women’s water polo player Audrey Hattori was selected to the All-SCIAC Second Team this morning. The rookie capped off a breakout first season with the award.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team suffered a 5-4 overtime defeat to Redlands to close out its home schedule on Wednesday. The Panthers celebrated the careers of their five seniors prior to the match.

Twelve Panthers tally goals in women’s water polo victory over Caltech

April 14, 2018

The Chapman University women’s water polo team rolled past the visiting Caltech Beavers (0-21, 0-13 SCIAC) 19-4 earlier this afternoon. Twelve different Panthers tallied goals, but freshman Talia Florio tallied a hat trick to lead Chapman (10-15, 6-6 SCIAC) to victory.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team moved into fourth place in the SCIAC standings with a close 12-11 victory over Whittier College (7-15, 5-6 SCIAC) this afternoon. The Panthers (9-14, 5-5 SCIAC) were led by senior Ellie Peterson, who scored six goals and tallied three steals and two earned ejections in the winning effort.

Water polo falls twice to ranked teams

March 24, 2018

The Chapman University women’s water polo team fell in both matches of a doubleheader to Pomona-Pitzer and Cal State East Bay. The Panthers fell 18-5 in their SCIAC match with Division III’s top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer and 18-1 to No. 25 in the nation Cal State East Bay.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (12-5, 5-1 SCIAC) earlier this evening. Despite losing 9-4, senior goalkeeper Kerry Goodspeed led the Panthers (5-12, 1-4 SCIAC) in the cage with nine saves and four steals.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team dropped a match to Cal Lutheran earlier this afternoon. Sophomore Argelia Diaz was the sole player to score in the Panthers’ (4-11, 1-3 SCIAC) 8-1 loss to the Regals (11-4, 4-0 SCIAC).

The Chapman University women’s water polo team fell 10-8 to visiting Villanova on Tuesday at Allred Pool. Senior Kerry Goodspeed made 19 saves in the cage.

Junior Alyssa Welfringer led a solid defensive effort as the Chapman University women’s water polo team defeated visiting Penn St.-Behrend 13-5 on Sunday. The Panthers (4-7) totaled 25 steals in the contest to get their second win in a row and fourth in the last seven games.

The Chapman University women’s water polo team rolled past the visiting McKendree University earlier this evening. The Panthers (2-4, 1-0 SCIAC) were led by five different scorers and senior goalkeeper Kerry Goodspeed, who was solid in goal with six saves and three steals. Chapman held the Bearcats (4-9) to just one goal per quarter in its 10-4 victory.
