Women’s water polo wins first SCIAC match

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team earned its first SCIAC win of the season with a 9-5 victory over Occidental College. Sophomore Lauren Dvonch led the way for the Panthers with three goals, two assists, and three steals.

Sophomore Audrey Hattori also had an impressive performance, scoring three goals with one assist and three steals.

The Panthers took an early lead in the game, shutting out the Tigers 4-0 through the first half and into the third quarter. Chapman's two goals in the first quarter were scored by Hattori and sophomore Kylie Beloian. Freshman Mia Chanove scored the lone goal of the second period.

Occidental fought back in the third quarter, scoring four goals to shorten the deficit, but Hattori scored another goal followed by an additional two from Dvonch, helping the Panthers maintain a 7-4 going into the final quarters.

The Tigers scored one more goal in the fourth quarter, but Chapman responded with back-to-back-to-back goals by junior Argelia Diaz, Hattori, and Dvonch, cementing the win.

On Saturday, the Panthers will travel to Redlands for their second SCIAC match as they look to build on their four-game win streak. They return home on Thursday, March 14 to host Connecticut College at 4 p.m.
