Women's water polo falls in fourth quarter comeback

ORANGE, Calif.  The Chapman University women's water polo team fell in a close match to the visiting Claremont Mudd Scripps on Saturday. Sophomore Audrey Hattori led Chapman with five goals, but the Panthers eventually lost the match 10-9. 

Hattori scored her first two goals of the match in the first period, helping Chapman to take an early lead. Freshman Mia Chanove and junior Argelia Diaz each scored one goal apiece to end the first period ahead 4-2.  

CMS sophomore Chandlyr Denaro scored the first two goals of the second period to tie the game 4-4. With just one second left in the period, Hattori scored a goal to bring the Panthers back into the lead, going into the half at 5-4. 

In the third period, after another goal from Hattori and Diaz, CMS scored once more. Hattori ended the period with her fifth and final goal, bringing the score to 8-5.  

Things took a turn in the fourth period when CMS scored five unanswered goals, pulling ahead 10-8. Chapman fought to regain the lead but was unable to. Chanove scored one more goal in the last 30 seconds of the period to end the game 10-9.  

Chapman heads to Occidental on Wednesday but returns home to face Redlands on Saturday at 11 a.m.
