Third period struggle determines close loss to Redlands

ORANGE, Calif.-  The Chapman University women's water polo team fell in a close 5-4 loss to the visiting Redlands University Bulldogs. Senior goalie Alyssa Welfringer had 14 saves and sophomore Audrey Hattori led the Panthers with three goals.

Hattori started the Panthers off in the first period with their first goal of the game. Sophomore Emily Whitney echoed with another goal to end the first quarter ahead 2-0.

The Bulldogs put their first point up to start off the second period, but soon after, Hattori pulled the Panthers ahead by two again with another goal. In the last two minutes of the half, Redlands scored, pulling their deficit to only one goal to end the half down 3-2.

Redlands dominated the third period while Chapman was unable to score. The Bulldogs had two goals within the last two minutes to pull them ahead 4-3.

Hattori tied the game back up in the beginning of the fourth, but soon after Bulldogs' Katelyn Jenkins scored again. The Panthers were unable to come back in the remaining five minutes of the match.

The Panthers' next home game will be against the visiting Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
