SCIAC debut falls flat for Chapman cross country

LA MIRADA, Calif. – It was a disappointing debut for the Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams participating in their first-ever SCIAC multi-dual meet against every school in the conference on Friday afternoon. The Panthers finished last overall in the men's scoring and fell short of having enough women's participants to qualify.

The Chapman men were led once again by freshman runner Chris Reid, who was the Panthers' top finisher for the fourth time this season. His time of 28:01.58 placed 42nd overall in the field of 131 runners and 30 seconds off his fastest 8K pace set two weeks prior at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

Meanwhile, the women were led by sophomore Charlie Truax who set a career-best in the 6K with a time of 25:59.78 and good enough for 73rd place. Truax shattered her only other 6K run this season where she ran over a minute and a half slower at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite. The Panther women had just three competitors, but needed five to place in the event.

The Panthers will get one more tune-up at the Biola Invitational this Saturday before facing the same field of runners at the SCIAC championships on Oct. 27 at Prado Park.
